Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Illinois Capital Region
Christian County Branch
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Illinois Capital Region, Christian County Branch opened in Taylorville, Illinois, in April 1999. Children and adults were matched in the Community-Based mentoring program. In 2001, Christian County began its first Site-Based mentoring program at West School, serving 15 children who were matched with high school students. The agency served 45 students during the 2004-2005 school year at North, South, West and Kincaid Grade Schools. In 2005, the agency served more than 80 children in quality one-to-one mentoring relationships through the Site-Based mentoring programs at North, West and South schools in Taylorville and Morrisonville Grade School in Morrisonville.
Through regular fundraisers such as Pigs For Kids and Bowl For Kids' Sake, BBBS continues to grow the mentoring programs in Christian County, expanding in Taylorville and surrounding towns.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Illinois Capital Region offers one-to-one mentoring relationships to children who have been referred to us, either by a parent or a teacher. We serve children in Sangamon, Christian and Montgomery Counties through both the Community-Based and Site-Based Mentoring programs.
